МCK РАRTNERS TO HOST PAN-AFRICAN MEDIA SUMMIT ON INFORMATION
INTEGRITY AND SUSTAINABILITY

NAIROBI- It is all systems go for the first Pan-African Media Summit, coming to Nairobi from 13
to 14 May 2026. Over 20 countries are expected to attend, making it a truly continental gathering.
The Summit will bring together editors, journalists, media stakeholders and scholars from across
Africa to talk about the state of media on the continent, the opportunities, the challenges and what the
future of journalism looks like.
The Summit is hosted by the Media Council of Kenya (MCK), the Kenya Editors Guild (KEG), the
Kenya Union of Journalists (KUJ) and the Association of Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK), a
strong coalition committed to giving African media a shared continental voice.
The media industry is changing fast. Artificial intelligence, digital platforms and shifting audience
habits are transforming how information is created, shared and consumed. These shifts bring exciting
opportunities, but they have also fuelled the spread of misinformation and put real pressure on
traditional media business models.
Across Africa, media organisations are feeling the squeeze. Declining revenues, rising costs and
growing pressure from market and political forces are taking their toll. Independent journalism is
under strain, and that has consequences for public trust, access to information and democracy itself.
The Summit, themed “Information Integrity, Digital Platforms and Media in Africa”, is designed to
cut through the noise and focus on practical solutions. Participants will explore ways to strengthen
media viability, protect information integrity and uphold the professional and ethical standards that
journalism depends on.
The meeting is expected to produce concrete recommendations and policy proposals to help
governments, regulators and industry players keep pace with a rapidly changing media landscape.
The outcomes will contribute to building media systems across the continent that are resilient,
independent and accountable.
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) will participate as a
knowledge partner, bringing global expertise on information integrity and governance. Its
frameworks are expected to support discussions on strengthening transparency, accountability and
resilience within the information ecosystem.
The East Africa Press Councils (EAPC) and the World Association of Press Councils (WAPC) will
also be in attendance, adding valuable regional and international perspectives to the conversation.
Promoting Media Freedom and Responsible Journalism
A free, independent and sustainable media is at the heart of any healthy democracy. This Summit
a timely opportunity to shape bold, practical approaches that secure the future of journalism while
keeping its core purpose intact, informing the public and holding power to account.
