AMWIK Member Cynthia Gichiri Triumphs at the 2026 Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Media Africa Awards

The Association of Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK) is thrilled to celebrate the outstanding achievement of our member, Cynthia Gichiri, who has been named a winner of the prestigious 2026 Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Media Africa Award for Local Journalism.

Cynthia, a renowned investigative journalist with Africa Uncensored, was selected from a highly competitive pool of nearly 300 submissions from across Sub-Saharan Africa. Her win highlights the critical role of fearless, local-level reporting in shaping national discourse and holding power to account.

Cynthia is no stranger to the frontlines of investigative journalism. This latest accolade from the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Media Programme recognizes her “bold and courageous” approach to storytelling, a hallmark of her career.

Known for her relentless pursuit of truth, Cynthia has previously exposed deep-seated corruption in Kenya’s agricultural sector through her award-winning investigation, “Fertile Deception,” which uncovered a fraudulent fertilizer scheme that devastated local farmers. Her work has consistently triggered policy reforms and provided a voice to the marginalized, proving that local stories have the power to create global impact.

As a winner of the 2026 contest, Cynthia has been invited to the Local Journalism Conference in Lilongwe, Malawi, taking place from February 21st to 25th, 2026. This gathering of Africa’s top media minds will focus on “Advancing Local Journalism and Strengthening Media Futures.”

At AMWIK, we see Cynthia’s success as a testament to the resilience and talent of women in the Kenyan media landscape. Speaking on her journey, Cynthia has previously noted the importance of sisterhood in the industry.

Cynthia’s win is not just a personal milestone but a victory for the entire AMWIK community. She continues to inspire a new generation of female journalists to remain consistent, believe in their capabilities, and tell the stories that matter.

Please join us in congratulating Cynthia Gichiri on this remarkable achievement.
