AMWIK Hosts Internews for Strategic Meeting on Women’s Digital Safety

The AMWIK team today hosted a delegation from Internews Europe, led by CEO Meera Selva and including Fatuma Sanbur and Abraham Mariita, for a collaborative meeting on addressing Tech-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV) and advancing women’s safety in digital spaces.

The productive discussion explored key challenges women face online, from doxxing and harassment to the spillover of digital threats into physical violence. Both teams agreed on the urgent need to develop practical solutions, including enhancing reporting mechanisms like AMWIK’s case tracker initiative in Kisumu, pushing tech platforms for greater accountability, and preparing protective measures ahead of Kenya’s 2027 elections.

With Internews sharing valuable insights from the UK’s progress on newsroom safety and AMWIK highlighting Kenya’s media landscape challenges, this partnership marks an important step toward creating safer digital environments for women journalists and leaders. The teams committed to joint advocacy, awareness campaigns, and grassroots programs to combat TFGBV and promote gender equality in media and beyond.
