Kenyan AMWIK Member Rahab Watari Wins Prestigious International Video Prize

AMWIK proudly celebrates the outstanding achievement of Rahab Watari, a dedicated member of the Association of Media Women in Kenya, who has been honored with the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ) Star Prize for Video. This global recognition was announced during the IFAJ World Congress held in Nairobi, further highlighting the vital role of Kenyan women journalists in elevating agricultural and environmental stories on the world stage.

Rahab’s acclaimed video, titled “Agroecology Revolution in Kenya,” captured the attention of international judges for its powerful storytelling and technical excellence. The work passionately documents the challenges of food security and showcases how agroecology offers real, sustainable solutions for building resilient food systems in Kenya. “A powerful document that addresses the challenges of food security and the power of agroecology to build a sustainable food system,” praised the Star Prize judges, led by Leigh Radford from Australia and panel.

The IFAJ Star Prize is regarded as the highest commendation in global agricultural journalism. According to Adrian Bell, IFAJ secretary-general, “Rahab’s exceptional video demonstrates just how to deploy technical excellence to share the changes ongoing in agriculture around the world.”

Rahab Watari’s success not only brings pride to AMWIK and the Kenyan media community but also underscores the contribution of African women journalists in championing issues that matter at home and abroad. AMWIK remains committed to amplifying voices like Rahab’s, empowering women journalists, and advancing impactful storytelling across Kenya and the region.
