AMWIK, USAWA Partners Engage Healthcare Leadership in Nakuru County

AMWIK, along with partners from USAID-USAWA (Transparency International-Kenya, Global Compact, and the Inter-religious Council of Kenya), participated in a co-creation exercise with Nakuru County’s Health Management Teams. This event aimed to introduce the USAWA project, assess its progress, and refine its implementation for maximum impact.

AMWIK’s Executive Director, Queenter Mbori, praised Nakuru County’s leadership in embracing the program, launched earlier in April in the County. “I also urge the counties to see the media as a powerful ally in fostering transparency, accountability, public engagement, and commitment to the public good,” she said.

Echoing these sentiments, County Chief Nursing Officer Wendy Tirop commended Governor Kihika’s dedication to fostering transparency and accountability in healthcare governance. “These collaborative efforts and the Governor’s commitment to inclusive reforms, transparent, and efficient healthcare practices are being actualized, setting Nakuru on the path to improved health outcomes for all residents,” she stated.

The USAWA program focuses on strengthening citizen participation, ensuring efficient resource allocation, and enforcing regulations within the healthcare sector across five counties: Nakuru, Kilifi, Mombasa, Isiolo, and Kakamega.

As a media partner, AMWIK will leverage its platforms to increase awareness of citizens rights as healthcare consumers, encourage reporting of fraud and abuse, and develop their skills to advocate together for transparency and accountability.
