Patience Nyange Executive Director
Patience is a communication, media and advocacy specialist with about 18 years of experience in various communications fields, including broadcast journalism, international public relations and communications, social media management and mentorship for young journalists and PR practitioners.
Patience has worked with both international and local media houses in Kenya (Baraka FM, KBC, BBC and Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation in Norway). She has previously served as an Assistant Director, at the Chairpersons Office at the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights.
She is a Chevening Scholar for the year 2019 and holds a Master’s Degree in International Public Relations and Global Communication Management from Cardiff University, UK, a Master’s Course in International Studies and Diplomacy at the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Media from Daystar University.
Gladys Muveva Finance Manager
CPA (K) Gladys Muveva holds a Bachelor of Business Management degree (Finance and Banking option) from Moi University. She is a qualified accountant with over 10 years experience in financial management, implementation of internal controls, financial reporting, donor funds and grants management, payroll management among others. She has also undertaken various short courses in audit and taxation.
Her prior work experience includes working as an Accounts Assistant and Office Administrator in various private and Non-Governmental organizations.
Lilian Museka Programs Officer
Lilian has over 16 years of experience in media, which she uses to advocate for gender equality and has as a result won several national and international accolades.
Her continuous desire to see a world free of violence led her to successfully rally civil societies in Zambia to develop programmes to address sexual violence while her article on Women’s dignity restored through sanitary towels dispensers won an award during the APO Group 5th Africa Women Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum (AWIEF) in 2019.
She continues her gender advocacy journey through her role as Programmes Officer at AMWIK. Her aspiration is to positively contribute to change that addresses violence and discrimination against women and girls.
Mercy Mwikali Administration Assistant
Mercy holds a Certificate in Secretarial Studies and computer packages. She has over 10 years experience as an Administrative Assistant and provides general office support to the AMWIK Secretariat and Board, ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.
THE BOARD
Dr. Jane Thuo Board Chairperson
Dr. Jane has vast expertise and experience in the field of communications, gender and media. She is a former Executive Director of AMWIK (2007-2013) and the immediate former Vice-Chairperson. She is a lecturer at the communications department of the University of Nairobi and Daystar Universities. She holds a PhD from the University of Nairobi, a Master of Arts in Communications degree from Daystar University and a B.ED (Arts) from Moi University.
Venter Nkatha Board Treasurer
Venter is an award-winning media practitioner with over 15 years of experience as a Multimedia Storyteller, Journalism Trainer, Chief Editor, Communications and Advocacy Coordinator, and Documentary Director.
Venter holds a Master’s degree in Development Communication from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Journalism from the Kenya Methodist University, and diplomas in Journalism, Media Studies, and Monitoring and Evaluation from ICM in the UK and AMREF International University respectively. She is currently pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Digital Journalism at the Aga Khan University Graduate School of Media and Communications (GSMC).
Jane Godia Board Member
Jane Godia has over 20 years of experience as a journalist, editor and trainer. She is the current Director of Women In News-Africa and a trustee at African Gender and Media Initiative (GEM) Trust and has previously worked as a Deputy Managing Editor at the Standard Group.
She is a graduate of the University of Nairobi with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Gender and Development.
Cylia Kathambi Board member
Cylia is a communications practitioner with over 15 years of experience in communication strategy development, public and media relations and policy advocacy. She is the lead consultant at EKAR, a strategic communication agency.
Cylia has a bachelor’s degree in Communications and PR from Moi University and is currently pursuing her Masters in Communication Studies from the United States International University (USIU).
Lillian Anyango Board member
Lillian is a communication, sociology, and literature expert. She has a Master of Arts degree in Communication Studies and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication and Sociology from the University of Nairobi. For almost 2 decades now, she has been a teacher of diverse age groups and most recently a lecturer at Multimedia and St. Paul’s Universities.
She enjoys music and has managed music bands for the past 15 years (most recently at Limitless Worship). With her wealth of experience in Communications, Music, Events, Teaching & Training, Administration and Business, she aspires to positively impact individuals and communities across the world.
