Queenter Mbori Executive Director
Sharon Kechula Programs Manager
Sharon Kechula is a project management professional with extensive experience in implementing local and international projects in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, eyesight, Water Sanitation and Hygiene and Education.
Sharon holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Disaster Management and International Diplomacy and a Diploma in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.
Her 11 years of experience spans grants management, project implementation and coordination, monitoring and evaluation, stakeholder engagement, policy and advocacy, grant and proposal writing as well as program operations oversight.
She has been working with local communities to co-create solutions and integrate nonprofit organizations, governments, legislatures, and civil society organizations in the development space to effect sustainable change.
Sharon enjoys charity and philanthropy; impacting one human at a time.
Denis Mbau Impact and Media Liaison
Denis is a communications and media professional with over 8 years of cross-sector experience in supporting brands formulate and implement impactful corporate communication strategies.
Denis has a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism and Mass Communication and is currently working on his dissertation for a Master of Arts degree in Communication Studies- Development Communication.
He has worked with many brands in the NGO, private and public sectors in the realms of digital media, mass media, content creation, publishing and Public Relations. His role will is vital in leveraging strategies to refine our messaging, engage our stakeholders and build brand awareness.
Gladys Muveva Finance and Admin Manager
Gladys is an experienced Finance & Administration Manager with over a decade of comprehensive expertise in financial management, administrative operations, and strategic planning. Possessing a proven track record of success in optimizing financial performance, implementing robust internal controls, and driving operational efficiencies.
Adept at overseeing diverse administrative functions while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and company policies. She is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Business Administration to further enhance leadership and management skills.
Peter Mwangi Programs Assistant
Peter Mwangi is a dedicated professional with a strong background in communication and media studies. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication and Media from Kenyatta University. His journey with AMWIK began in July 2020 when he joined as an intern. However, Peter boasts a wealth of experience in the NGO sector, spanning different roles and responsibilities since 2015. Additionally, he has demonstrated a keen interest in furthering his knowledge and skills through participation in short courses, focusing on effective reporting, particularly in the areas of online violence against women, as well as peace and disaster reporting.
Mercy Mwikali Administration Assistant
Mercy holds a Certificate in Secretarial Studies and computer packages. She has over 10 years experience as an Administrative Assistant and provides general office support to the AMWIK Secretariat and Board, ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.
THE BOARD
Dr. Jane Thuo Board Chairperson
Dr. Jane has vast expertise and experience in the field of communications, gender and media. She is a former Executive Director of AMWIK (2007-2013) and the immediate former Vice-Chairperson. She is a lecturer at the communications department of the University of Nairobi and Daystar Universities. She holds a PhD from the University of Nairobi, a Master of Arts in Communications degree from Daystar University and a B.ED (Arts) from Moi University.
Lillian Anyango Vice Chairperson
An authentic and reliable communicator, Lillian is experienced in Communications and Sociology. One of her favourite pleasures is a good dose of Literature. She graduated with a Master of Arts in Communication Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Sociology from the University of Nairobi. For almost two decades, she has been a teacher of diverse age groups; most recently a lecturer at Multimedia and St. Paul’s Universities taking students through Communications and Journalism courses.
In addition, she enjoys music and has managed and been part of music bands over the past 15 years.
With her wealth of experience in Communications, Leadership, Music, Events, Teaching & Training, Administration and Business, she aspires to positively impact individuals and communities across the globe.
Dr. Venter Nkatha Board Treasurer
Dr. Venter is an award-winning media practitioner with over 15 years of experience as a Multimedia Storyteller, Journalism Trainer, Chief Editor, Communications and Advocacy Coordinator, and Documentary Director.
Dr. Venter holds a Ph.D. in International Relations (Honours) from Selinus University, UK, a Master’s degree in Development Communication from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Journalism from the Kenya Methodist University, and diplomas in Journalism, Media Studies, and Monitoring and Evaluation from ICM in the UK and AMREF International University respectively. She is currently pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Digital Journalism at the Aga Khan University Graduate School of Media and Communications (GSMC).
Cylia Kathambi Board member
Cylia is a communications practitioner with over 15 years of experience in communication strategy development, public and media relations and policy advocacy. She is the lead consultant at EKAR, a strategic communication agency.
Cylia has a bachelor’s degree in Communications and PR from Moi University and is currently pursuing her Masters in Communication Studies from the United States International University (USIU).
Queenter Mbori Ex officio Board Member and Board Secretary
Queenter is an award-winning multimedia journalist, mentor, and certified media trainer. Her expertise spans sustainable journalism, gender-sensitive storytelling, amplifying the voices of marginalized groups and is a celebrated advocate for gender equality.
As the Executive Director, she also serves as an ex officio Board Member and Secretary to the AMWIK Board of Directors.
