Milestone as AMWIK Joins ACOS Global Alliance
The Association of Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK) has officially become a signatory to the ACOS Alliance (A Culture Of Safety Alliance). This Alliance is a unique global coalition consisting of 152 news organizations, journalist associations, and press freedom NGOs collaborating to advocate for secure and responsible journalistic practices. The primary objective of the Alliance is to instil a culture of safety within journalism, enabling independent media and journalists worldwide to fulfil their vital role in safeguarding democracy.
In its capacity as a signatory, AMWIK has endorsed the Freelance Journalist Safety Principles, which serve as the foundational framework for global safety standards for journalists and newsrooms. AMWIK will collaborate with the Alliance to promote these Principles within AMWIK, among its members, and within the broader media landscape in Kenya.
Additionally, AMWIK will actively participate in discussions that propel safety best practices and innovations.
This involvement includes attending the Annual ACOS Safety Coordination Meeting, where our Executive Director, Patience Nyange, will represent our organization.
