AMWIK proudly clinched a prestigious accolade at Kenya’s Annual SDGs Awards 2023 in Mombasa, securing the esteemed recognition in the SDG9 category for our groundbreaking efforts in leveraging media to champion the Sustainable Development Goals. The awards were organized by the SDGs Kenya Forum which brings together over 350 diverse civil society organizations working across the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Through our partners, AMWIK story grants empowers and supports journalists to shed light on challenges hindering Kenya’s infrastructure development while proposing viable, sustainable solutions. Journalists supported by AMWIK create informative content emphasizing the interconnections between infrastructure, technology, industrialization, and their collective impact on sustainable development and enhanced livelihoods.
Through our digital platforms and extensive media networks, AMWIK collaborates synergistically with Kenyan journalists to disseminate crucial information, enlighten the public, and inspire collective action toward achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
Additionally, AMWIK’s proactive involvement in reporting on events related to the Sustainable Development Goals has allowed diligent tracking of progress toward specific targets outlined in SDG 9. Secondly, it serves as a mechanism to hold stakeholders accountable by highlighting areas of improvement.
Speaking during the ceremony, AMWIK’s Executive Director, Patience Nyange, emphasized the pivotal role of media, especially women in media, as drivers of transformation. “Our capacity as agents of change, leveraging various platforms to educate, motivate, and rally communities towards fulfilling the SDGs is vital in shaping narratives and fostering dialogues.” She said, expressing AMWIK’s appreciation for being an integral part of this impactful journey.
