“SEEK ELECTIVE POSITIONS”- SAYS KIBAKI
H.E Kibaki urged the women in Maendeleo ya wanawake to use the vast networks to uplift and promote peace before, during and after the elections.
Kibaki says Kenyan government has not only upheld women rights but also the rights are guarded and protected in the constitution.
He added that, the government would comtinue to mainstream gender and promote gender equality and women empowerment to help in achieving some goals in the country.
He concluded by appealing to Kenyan women to take advantage of the existing financial services offered by both public and private institutions to uplift their social and financial status.
The government will continue to work with other relevant stake holders to ensure that social, economic and political status of Kenya is greatly improved and the women’s participation and visibility in the political arena is increased.
The vice chairperson of Maendeleo ya Wanawake organization, Mrs. Rahab Muiu thanked President Kibaki for having continued to recognize the organization which has existed for the past three regimes.
Rahab requested, the president to talk to the regime that will succeed him to put a separate budget for the organization to enable it prosper and fight poverty.
The 60th anniversary celebrations was attended by the Vice president of Malawi Hon. Khumbo Kachali accompanied by his wife a delegate from Sudan, the minister for gender, children and social development Hon Dr Naomi Shabaan.
