Kudos! I Learnt Much From You!
Dear AMWIK,
Thank you for having me for 8 months! I have learned so much about how an NGO works, including how to facilitate workshops, do media monitoring, represent an organization, work with campaigns, write proposals. I have also practiced my English, both written and spoken. I have come home a more competent employee, that’s for sure.
I have also seen another part of Kenya/Africa than previously experienced: well educated, engaged, knowledgeable and internationally focused people. This was healthy. I have already been reminded after only one week in Oslo: we westerners tend to picture Africa as portrayed through aid related news: they all live in the rural areas, live in mud huts and wear traditional clothes, if any. I am doing my best to change these perceptions in people I meet and in general I believe this perception is changing through globalisation. Small steps at a time! Haba na haba. But no doubt: This should be speeded up. No excuse for ignorance in these easy-to-access-information days.
Some first reflections from summer Norway. I miss Kenya already and I know I’ll go back one day.
Last but not least: I want to wish you all the best with your work and new radio studio. Take care and let’s keep in touch!
