Grateful For Exchange Opportunity
I am really glad that AMWIK gave me this opportunity on the exchange programme. Initially I thought it was only for the Media Women Associations in five countries – Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Kenya and Zambia – only to realise that there are different organizations under this umbrella. I appreciate Fredskorpset for its work in collaboration with all these organizations, because trust me; it’s creating differences in the lives of participants.
It was a good choice for the organizers to bring the preparatory course (for 2010 FK participants) in Kenya as it has given us (Kenyan participants) a chance to market our own. We visited the museum, the national park and finally the Bomas of Kenya during the course. This gave our visitors an opportunity to see our diverse tourism sector and also experience our different cultures which was shown through various performances from different communities. This came out clearly as the interpreter was able to bring out the differences in the culture which was well received by our guests. They (guests) also had a chance to participate in the dancing styles which made them so happy. This brought out the fact that different communities or countries have diverse cultures and there is need to appreciate each of them. I have therefore learnt that there is no good, bad or neutral culture. All culture is different and even as we go out there, we shall meet different cultures, therefore there is need to tolerate them.
