“determination leads to success”
I totally agree with the philosopher who came up with the statement “determination leads to success.” I joined the Association of Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK) in 2010 at the age of 21 years when I was looking for internship in the Media industry. A friend of mine had introduced me to AMWIK and had told me great things about its work and the benefits they gave to Members. After a week I contacted my friend for the directions to AMWIK offices and within a span of an hour I had boarded a matatu to westlands. I met Joyce Nyaruai the programmes officer in charge of membership who attested me with the membership registration.
Since joining AMWIK I have not only grown professionally but I have also benefited a lot through networking with other members and attending various trainings that AMWIK has organized through the years for its members. In 2012, AMWIK awarded me a scholarship which enabled me to pursue a Bachelors Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication. I will always be grateful to AMWIK for their support in upgrading my professional career.
I’d like to encourage my fellow ladies in the journalism, PR and Communication professions to join AMWIK since it’s a professional media body that serves to uplift the lives of women and children through media coverage of issues that affect their lives. AMWIK also seeks to empower media professionals through trainings and members meeting where members can network and grow professionally together. To the members, I’d also encourage you to volunteer and participate in AMWIK projects and Corporate Social Responsibility activities which will build them not only physically but also psychologically. Thank you AMWIK and God bless AMWIK
