The WIN leadership programme is designed to equip middle level women media practitioners especially in newspapers and on digital to realize their full potential in their media houses. WIN hopes that in doing so, they can pave the way for better women representation especially at senior levels.

Mercy works at the People Daily as a senior sub-editor while Anne works at World Vision International – Kenya as a communications officer. Evelyn Kwamboka is a former Editor at the Standard Newspaper. The three will be part of the high impact, sought-after programme that over the years has demonstrated the potential to help transform careers of media women who apply themselves fully to the programme.

On November 20, a day which marked The International Day of the Child, Anne won the top Award for being the best in Child’s Rights Advocacy Journalist in Print Media during the Child Rights and Protection Media Awards 2014/2015 hosted by Children Rights Advocacy and Legal Aid foundation (Cralaf).

Mercy recently completed the African Women’s Leadership and Mentorship Initiative funded by Urgent Action Fund-Africa and facilitated by Coady International Institute of St Francis Xavier University, Canada. In addition, Mercy runs a weekly column that focuses on girl’s and women’s issues.

Anne, Mercy and Evelyn will be part of a group of 20 high-potential female editors selected from Kenya, Malawi and Tanzania to participate in the training that will be carried out from December 2015 to June 2016. The participants will be engaged in media management and editorial skills as well as coaching and mentoring. The programme is funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On 18 and 19 December 2015, the three will attend the launch of the programme in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, ahead of intensive media leadership training (January 11-15, 2016) at Wits University in Johannesburg, South Africa.

We congratulate Anne, Mercy and Evelyn and wish them all the best as they fly high the AMWIK’s, the People Daily and Standard group flags.
